Seasons of the Church

The Church Year shapes our worship and educational program. It leads us to remember the life and ministry of Jesus. Throughout the church year there are specific liturgical colors for use for vestments and hangings within the context of the Christian liturgy. Although at St. John's we do not use hangings on the altar, pulpit, etc. the liturgical colors are still utilized through the vestments of the pastor. While there are more and more colors recommended, we maintain the traditional ones of green, blue, purple, red and white.

PURPLE: Lent is the season to display the color purple. It expresses repentance, self-examination, fasting, prayer, works of love and a complete reorientation of our lives toward God.

This website will change colors in keeping with the changes that take place in our sanctuary and the pastor's dress. That is why this site now has a purple theme. Return to this page often to stay informed on the Seasons of the Church.
